For Credit: Is This Thing On?

To get familiar with how the comment function of the blog works, feel free to post a response to this question. If you post a response, you get a point; if you don't, you don't.

So here's the question you can answer (in as much or as little detail as you wish):

What's the best movie you saw (either in the theater or on the small screen) this summer?

  1. Your instructor here--I go by "KW" on the blog, and I'll start. For sheer entertainment value, I'd have to say the X-Men movie. I'm not a huge fan of comic-book spinoffs, but we made it a family outing for Father's Day, and I enjoyed it much more than I expected to (though I wouldn't go quite so far as my eight-year-old, who pronounced it "The Most Awesome Movie Ever.")

  2. I saw Larry Crowne with one of my girlfriends this summer. I thought it was lacking some plot... maybe I just didn't understand too much of it, but I liked Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts together. They're amazing actors and it was nice to see them grow old together (as actors).

  3. I didn't get a chance to see a lot of movies this summer, but I did enjoy seeing Thor. I'm always interested in seeing how well comic-book films are going to turn out(my dad is a huge fan of comic-books)

  4. I didn't watch a lot of movies this summer, but the most memorable film I saw was "Rubber." A patron recommended it to me while was bartending next to Ebertfest this summer. It's a quirky film by a French director about a tire that inexplicably comes to life. In the past I haven't gotten a lot out of absurdity but I'm starting to get into it. The strangeness of things points out the normalcy we usually take for granted...or something like that. Anyway it's new but it's streaming on Netflix already.

  5. Best movie I saw this summer has to be the final Harry Potter film. The action of the film was great and because I am familiar with the story line and the other 6 films it was that much more thrilling to watch. For those who have not seen it or do not care for Harry Potter I will not divulge any details about the film. Just know that it was the bomb.com! :)

  7. My favorite movie of the summer was the Harry Potter film. The cinematography was amazing and I don't understand how they make Voldemort look so creepy. The actors have demonstrated just how much they have grown in their craft over the course of the entire series. They have gone from little kids to awesome actors, and it was really cool to see. I also love the little love stories in there. :)

  8. The best movie I saw this summer was Harry Potter. I saw it in IMAX in Navy Pier and it was amazing. The planning and thought put into that movie left me speechless. The only part of the movie I did not like was the ending scene showing Harry, Ron & Hermoine all grown up because it actually made me sad to see this series end.

  9. The best movie that I saw this summer was The Tourist. I know that I am very late watching this but it was a really great movie, excellent storyline, just enough action and it starred Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp! Enough said.

  10. The best movie I saw this summer was "Beginners" featuring Melanie Laurent and Ewan McGregor.

  11. I really enjoyed Harry Potter. On its own, I felt that the film was not the best, but when you watch the first part of the 7th film before it, it really was a pretty good second half. The only thing I wished they had changed was the final fight between Harry and Voldemort. It was supposed to be THE fight and it was a bit of a let down unfortunately.

  12. I have to agree with several of my classmates and say the new Harry Potter. Like Samantha commented, it wasn't the best of the series, but it was a nice conclusion to something that has been in my life for since I was a kid.

  13. I would argue between Transformers 3 and Thor. I really enjoyed what they did with the Transformer's storyline, and Thor has become one of my favorite superheroes because of all of the action in his movie.

  14. This summer I saw the movie Midnight in Paris. I absolutely loved it! It's a Woody Allen film, which in my eyes lends greatly to its credibility. It is a movie about many different authors and artists from different time periods all living in the same space in time. It teaches us that each time period is unique and special in its own way and that we should value our own generation.

  15. The best movie I saw this summer would definitely have to be the new Harry Potter film. I felt that it closed up the series quite well, and all of the action and plot left me on the edge of my seat the whole time.

  16. Wow, reading everyone's responses brings home to me the fact that I didn't actually see that many movies this summer!

My older daughter lined up hours in advance to see the first midnight showing of the new Harry Potter movie, but I stayed home! (At 12, she considers herself far too sophisticated for HP, but she had a ball hanging out in line with her friends.) I'll probably see it on DVD when my younger daughter and I have finished reading the last book together (I've read them all already, but she's only just started The Half-Blood Prince, which we read aloud at bedtime).
